About the Campaign
The independent local shops you know and love are facing a serious threat - the Draft Centres Policy. The Draft is a planning policy currently being considered by the NSW Government.
The Draft encourages the over-supply of retail floor space in new commercial centres and outside of existing centres. It also proposes to expand existing centres.
Only the retail giants can survive this policy. The big chains with their massive, dominant market share can subsidise the losses in an over supplied local market, increasing their
dominance further.
The Draft will also mean more of the big-box shopping centres filled with chains and franchises, locking out and stifling small independent operators.
